You can find an Octopharm Plasma Center in more than 20 states in the US.  When visiting for the first time, ensure that you have your driver’s license, Social Security number and your utility bill, which has your current address and it, should be dated within the last 30 days.  During your visit to the Octopharm Plasma donation centre you will undergo a physical test, fill in a detailed questionnaire and your blood tested to make sure that you are an eligible donor.

Potential donors should:

  • Be of the age between 18 and 64 years.
  • Should not have had body piercings, tattoos, piercings or any permanent makeup during the last 12 months.
  • Have a healthy vein where blood can be drawn from the hand.
  • Be of at least 110 pounds

There are medical conditions that cannot limit you from making a donation. Conditions such as diabetes and high or low blood pressure, if controlled cannot stop you from making a donation. You can visit Octopharm Plasma Centre to find out if your medicine can interfere with your plasma donation. If you are under medication such as Aspirin, Plavix or Accutune, you will have to stop taking them for some time before you can make a donation. Most medication may not stop you from making a donation as long as you are of good health and the condition is under control. When you visit the Octopharm Plasma collection facility for the first time it will take a couple of hours since you will be undergoing tests but after that, it can take about 30 minutes.

Your first visit at Octopharm Plasma Centre

When you check in you will present your personal details to the staff. After that, you will be educated on the plasma donation process by watching a video.  You will the fill a questionnaire, give your medical history, take blood tests, learn the plasma donation process and sign a confidential consent form. After all this, it will now be time to make your donation. You will be led to a secluded area in the Octopharm Plasma Centre, where the phlebotomist will draw blood from your arm using a sterile needle. You will experience a little discomfort, more like a prick. The blood will then be put in equipment, where the blood will be separated from the plasma as it cycles. During this time, you can read magazines. Watch TV or make use of the free Wi-Fi on your phone. You can bring your music, magazines or books.

After the donation, your payment will be credited on your Octopharm Plasma debit card. Every time you make a donation, the card is credited. You have to come back to the plasma donation centre after about two to fourteen days to make your second donation since the first plasma donation cannot be used till you make a second one. The first time, the plasma sample is screened before it is used. You can make your donation at least twice in seven days.
